One Minute NLP – Sensory Language

Remember those times when you were eager to share a conversation with your friends, only to realize they were completely disengaged, their minds wandering elsewhere? Or when you read an email and none of the lines made sense? Or perhaps you picked up a book with high expectations, set aside solitary time for it, and when you opened the first page, nothing captivated you?

What is the common thread in all these situations? The answer is simple: these communications lacked spark and failed to captivate their audience.

Conversely, there are moments when you feel all eyes are transfixed on you, as if you are about to reveal the most important secret of life. Or you might have a friend or family member whose words everyone eagerly waits for because when they speak, the world listens.

There are emails that not only capture your mind but also leave a lasting impression on your heart, and we all have a list of books we couldn’t put down. So, what’s the secret sauce for captivating an audience?

The secret sauce is known as “Sensory Language.” According to NLP, if your communication – whether verbal, written, or in story form – is enriched with sensory language, the audience will feel hooked. This involves using words that bring descriptions to life by engaging all the senses: sight, smell, sound, touch, and taste. This makes your sentences come alive and your stories irresistible. Your emails will no longer fall flat, and your stories will be enchanting.

Ready to start incorporating sensory language into your communication? Simply tap into the vast resources of sensory words available online and watch the magic unfold in your conversations, emails, and stories.

Meta Magic – The Handpump of Abundance

“Is this the end of my life?” Raman asked himself, searching the empty desert for an answer. His flask was dry, his throat ached from dehydration, and hope was slipping away. Two days without water had left him weak and desperate.

Stranded with no one around, today seemed like his last day. Suddenly, he spotted a flickering image of a hut. Was it real or a mirage? He squinted and rubbed his eyes. It was real—a hut, a sign of hope. He sprinted towards it, feeling a surge of energy.

Inside, he found a hand pump. His heart lifted as he began to pump. One push, two pushes, but nothing happened. His heart sank again. Scanning the hut, he spotted a filled water bottle and heaved a sigh of relief.

He immediately uncorked the bottle, and as he brought it to his lips, he noticed a note attached to it. “Use this water to start the pump. Once you are done using the pump, don’t forget to refill the bottle before you leave.”

Raman’s mind was in turmoil. What if this was a prank? What if the pump no longer worked? Should he drink the water or use it to prime the pump? He closed his eyes, feeling a lump in his throat. Deciding to take a leap of faith, he poured the water into the pump and began pumping again.

His faith was rewarded. The pump roared to life after just two attempts. His joy knew no bounds. He drank his fill, bathed as much as he wanted, filled all his large flasks, and remembered to refill the bottle. Today felt like a rebirth for Raman.

He scanned the room again and found a pencil and a map. Grateful, he now knew where he was. “How can I show my gratitude?” he wondered.

He looked at the filled, corked bottle. Taking a piece of paper, he wrote with the pencil: “Believe me, it works. Always.”

Water in this story represents all the good things in life – something that brings a smile. It can be intangible knowledge or symbolize money, love, family, friendship, happiness, respect, or anything else you value. Whatever it is that you seek in life – that’s your water.

The water pump represents the workings of the universe. Give it some “water” to work with, and it will return far more than you put in.

My question to you is: Do you believe in a handpump of abundance?

One Minute NLP – Backtrack Frame

Do you remember the days when you were asked to rewrite what you read in your own words? It might have seemed boring, but the activity had a definite objective: to enable recall and to establish a common understanding between you and the author.

In NLP, this concept is known as the BACKTRACK FRAME, where past information (verbal and nonverbal) is retrieved to establish and enhance a better understanding of a certain point of view.

This approach is especially useful at the start of meetings or when returning to a previous agenda. By providing a standard foundation, it ensures that everyone is on the same page.

While these are instances where we consciously apply the Backtrack Frame to our advantage, are you aware of how your subconscious mind slips into the Backtrack Frame of hurtful memories of the past that can prevent us from achieving success in the present or future?

Meta Magic – Which Doll are You?

An elderly king, wanting to pass his crown to his only son, sought to ensure the Prince understood the essence of kingship.

On the Prince’s 25th birthday, the 60-year-old King presented him with three dolls. “What? Dolls? Father, are you all right? I am not a girl, nor a child anymore,” the Prince exclaimed in surprise.

The King smiled and said, “I know, my son. But these are not ordinary dolls. They are here to teach you what it means to be a king.” Though puzzled, the Prince awaited further explanation. The King instructed him to pick up the first doll and insert a string into its ear.

The Prince complied and saw the string come out of the other ear. He looked at his father with wide, questioning eyes. “These people are the indifferent ones,” explained the King. “Whatever you tell them goes in one ear and out the other. A king should never be insensitive like this.”

Now intrigued, the Prince followed the instructions to insert a string into the second doll’s ear. This time, the string emerged from its mouth. Before he could ask, his father explained, “Such people are not trustworthy. Whatever you tell them, they cannot keep it to themselves. A king with such a flaw does not deserve the crown.”

Humbled by each revelation, the Prince picked up the third doll and inserted the string. To his surprise, the string did not come out anywhere, as if the doll was sealed in all the right places. “The King should be exactly like this,” the elderly King said. “Whatever reaches him stays within him. Not an iota is revealed. Trust is the ultimate crown a King can wear.”

The King knew his son was now ready to be crowned.

My question to you is: Which doll are you?

One Minute NLP – Identity

“Who am I?” This question itches almost everyone at some point in their lives. A metaphorical question is recently posed in the movie ‘Laapataa Ladies’, through this dialogue: ‘Isn’t covering the face equivalent to covering your identity?’

While our face is just an outline or a superficial part of who we are, what really matters here is what colours are filled up within the outline. Each identity is made up of a kaleidoscope of different colours (thoughts, beliefs, and patterns).

The ‘Logical Levels of Change’ model in Neuro-Linguistic Programming includes IDENTITY as one of the levels. When any change is desired, it is important to examine whether your Identity supports that change or whether it will come in the way of that change.

Our identities start getting formed right since childhood. For example, a child who procrastinated once or twice gets labelled as lazy and this becomes part of his/her identity label which he/she unconsciously carries as baggage.

To get to know yourself more deeply, I invite you to take a blank piece of paper and write down all your ‘I am’ statements.  E.g., I am a mother, I am a husband, I am a brother… initially, in this exercise, you may probably come up with the various “roles” that you play. Go on further to write all the various other ‘I am’ statements that you tell yourself throughout the day, like I am creative, I am boring, I am introverted, I am lazy, I am…

We will continue discussing what to do with this awareness in a future episode of NLP Around You.

Meta Magic – Do you have a Bird’s Eye View?

Dronacharya, the great archery teacher, once decided to test his disciples. He placed a wooden bird high on a tree and asked each student to aim for its eye.

The first disciple stepped forward, holding the bow and arrow. Dronacharya asked, “What do you see?” He replied, “I see the tree, the bird, the sky, and the leaves.” Dronacharya shook his head and asked him to step aside.

Next, the second disciple said he saw the tree, the bird, and everything around it. Dronacharya again was not satisfied. Each student gave a similar response, seeing everything around the bird.

Finally, Arjuna stepped up. When asked what he saw, Arjuna replied, “I see only the bird’s eye.”

Dronacharya’s eyes lit up with satisfaction. “And what else?” he asked.

“Nothing else,” Arjuna said firmly. “Just the bird’s eye.”

With a pleased nod, Dronacharya said, “Shoot.”

Arjuna released his arrow, hitting the target perfectly.

My question to you is: When life tests you, are you focused on the eye of your bird?

Hook From The Book

“You are not confused. You are experiencing a confusing situation. Separate the confusing situation from who you are. If you say ‘I am confused,’ you are implying the confusing situation is part of you. It is not. It is part of what you are experiencing. The answer to the confusion does not lie in the confusion itself. Rather it lies in the ability to step outside of it and see that you are experiencing it instead of it being you. The answer lies in you.” ― Najwa Zebian, Welcome Home: A Guide to Building a Home for Your Soul

One Minute NLP – Beliefs

Our reality is created by our Beliefs. Beliefs are what we trust to be true and are deeply ingrained in us. They shape our views on important aspects of life and the world. You either believe something or you don’t—there’s no middle ground. The interesting aspect of beliefs is that we are not even aware of some of our beliefs. They are often so deeply ingrained at the unconscious level. Our beliefs can empower or limit us because they often determine what we think we can and cannot do. Even when we don’t think about them, our beliefs still affect us. Beliefs influence our behaviour and decisions, from daily routines to career choices.

NLP enables you to identify unconscious beliefs and work on changing the ones which are limiting. You are invited to JOIN the next batch of NLP Practitioner Course by registering here:https://www.w3successacademy.com/f/nlp-foundation-2024

Meta Magic – What is your Imaginary Fibreglass?

A marine biologist decided to experiment with a shark and some fish. He placed a large shark in a big tank and, after a while, added some fish. The shark quickly devoured its tasty meal.

In the second phase of the experiment, the biologist introduced a twist. He inserted a sturdy fibreglass partition to separate the fish from the shark. The shark, with a gleam in its eye, eagerly anticipated another delicious feast. However, it couldn’t break through the fibreglass. It tried again with double the force but to no avail. The shark continued its attempts until it was exhausted. Finally, it realized that the fibreglass barrier was unbreakable.

From that day on, the shark was so convinced by the presence of the fiberglass that it stopped trying altogether.

In the third phase of the experiment, when the marine biologist removed the fibreglass, the shark still believed the barrier was there and ceased its efforts to catch the fish entirely.

My question to you is: Are you living a life limited by an invisible fibreglass like that shark?

One Minute NLP – Communication with Self

Let me ask you a question: In a typical day, How much of our communication happens with others as compared to the communication that we do with ourselves? Here I am not talking about whether you are in a job that involves interactions with others or working by yourself. Before we even say a word to someone else, our minds are buzzing with thoughts, interpretations, and meanings. It’s like having a constant dialogue going on inside our heads, created by our perceptions, beliefs, and ultimately, our reality. It’s as though we’re in constant conversation with ourselves, crafting narratives that influence how we experience the world around us. Consider a simple scenario: receiving an unexpected compliment from a colleague. While the external exchange may seem brief, our internal response can be a symphony of thoughts and emotions. Do we dismiss the compliment as insincere, or do we embrace it and feel a boost in confidence? Our internal dialogue not only colours our perception of the compliment but also shapes how we view ourselves and others. Similarly, in moments of conflict or uncertainty, our internal communication takes center stage. Before we voice our concerns or opinions to others, we’ve already engaged in a dialogue within ourselves, processing information, assigning meaning, and formulating responses. Understanding and harnessing this internal dialogue is key to effective communication, personal growth, and relationship dynamics. Becoming aware of this communication with your own self allows you to explore and refine this inner conversation, unlocking pathways to greater self-awareness, resilience, and authentic connection. By mastering the art of communicating with ourselves, we lay the foundation for more meaningful and fulfilling interactions with others.

Meta Magic – Are you Trading Simplicity for Complexity?

Today was a day of sheer joy for Rajan, one where even the word “happiness” felt inadequate to capture his elation. It marked the long-awaited launch of the world-class car he had painstakingly designed for a prestigious brand. This was his moment to shine, his opportunity to showcase his engineering prowess to the world.

As the day unfolded, everything seemed to fall perfectly into place. Yet, Rajan couldn’t shake off the nervous excitement as he watched the CEO take the car out for its inaugural test drive. However, his elation soon turned to dismay when they realized the car was an inch too tall to fit through the showroom entrance.

In an instant, Rajan’s heart sank. It felt like a blow to his dreams, shattering them into a million pieces. Amidst the chaos and disappointment, the team members started proposing some solutions. The paint technician suggested, “We can risk a scratch on the car while squeezing it out. Our team will immediately repaint it.” The Customer Support executive proposed breaking down the showroom entrance and then rebuilding it once the car had exited.

But amidst the confusion, a meek and hesitant voice from the chai vendor chipped in – “Sir, how about deflating the car’s tyres to decrease its height by an inch, allowing it to pass through the entrance unscathed?”

In that moment, amidst the tension and uncertainty, a sense of relief washed over everyone. It wasn’t about grand gestures or elaborate plans; it was about finding a simple solution to a seemingly insurmountable problem. And in that moment, Rajan realized that sometimes, it’s the simplest ideas that carry the most weight.
