The Ultimate Myth Busting Guide for NLP

The Ultimate Myth Busting Guide for NLP

The best travel in the world is the travel within. Going on a World Tour is a goal of many, but how many of us think about taking a tour within ourselves. One may like the sea, beaches and mountains, but what about the mountains and valleys that our mind carries? How about doing a treasure hunt of our own selves so that next time when we look into the mirror, we are no more a stranger to ourselves.

The words sound dreamy, but there is a way to turn all these dreams to reality and that road is not only less travelled, but majorly mis-understood and under-estimated. The road is known as NLP- Neuro Linguistic Programming.

NLP is a gateway to enter one’s own mind and its a holistic process to take a mindful tour of the garden inside the mind. Right from the first step of knowing the difference between information, meaning and knowledge, NLP takes us towards the final destination of Wisdom. Self-awareness is the soul of NLP and that’s what makes it an intriguing study.

From ‘Why do I do what I do?‘ to ‘Why don’t I do, what I should do?’ to ‘Why do I do what I don’t want to do?’ and finally discovering ‘HOW do I do and undo all of these with awareness?’ is like the hidden pandora box of insights.

As unbelievable as it may sound, NLP is the process of not just knowing the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of every tiny choice in our life, but it is also a tool to dig deeper into ‘what’, ‘when’ and ‘when not’.

To sum it up in one line – NLP is the flight that one can take to have a 3D look of one’s mind and with that, one can learn, un-learn and re-learn many aspects about one’s own self.

Wherever there is good, there are also doubts. So NLP too has not been spared and there are few myths, which are doing rounds in the world of scientific explanations and rudimentary thoughts. Here are some misunderstandings and myths about NLP.

Myth #1: NLP is needed for only demotivated people.

Motivation is like a bath for the mind and soul. It is needed daily. But NLP ensures that motivation should be intrinsic and long lasting through its sub-conscious tuning techniques. With refurbishing one’s inner narrative, NLP makes sure that motivation doesn’t remain as a daily need for body’s bath, but cleanses the sub-conscious to bathe soul permanently

Myth #2: NLP is about influence and influence stems from manipulation.

With the flood of perceptions in the world of idea wars on social media, no wonder that manipulation has been tainted as a dark skill to possess. But have you heard about witches doing good to people or the movie Bhootnath, where the ghost is a good ghost? Isn’t it important to focus on the usage than labelling the skill as good or bad? Manipulation is just a skill without label, which needs to be utilised in wise ways for cracking the deals in negotiation and NLP is the magic wand to manifest such manipulations.

Myth #3: NLP can be learnt from books

If this had been the case, then teachers would not be needed anywhere in the world. Just like map is not the territory, reading is not learning. Learning doesn’t happen when you gain knowledge. Learning happens when the knowledge is implemented and converted to wisdom. Having a coach, and that too the right one can help you unlock the full potential of NLP more efficiently and effectively than you would on your own.

Myth #4: The application of NLP is limited to therapy

Without any inhibitions or judgement about therapy, NLP empowers you to unlock your full potential, identify and overcome limiting beliefs, and achieve your goals in every area of personal as well as professional life. NLP can be the cherry on the cake, where the change begins from within, and as a result, radiating others to change.

So next time when someone raises a finger for NLP, be ready to give them hand to lead towards the other side of tunnel.

In Love with NLP – a poetic tribute

In Love with NLP – a poetic tribute

In love with NLP, oh how it flows,
A language of the mind, where the heart glows.
A tool to unlock our hidden desires,
A way to conquer fears, and reach higher.

With every technique, I am falling more in love,
Discovering the power of language, from above.
Reframing negative thoughts, and turning them to gold,
NLP’s magic, in my heart, will forever hold.

It helps me to communicate, and understand,
The hidden meanings, that others have at hand.
It brings clarity, to every word we say,
And in relationships, it lights the way.

Oh NLP, you’ve opened up my mind,
And in my heart, your teachings I will bind.
For you’ve shown me, the beauty in words,
And the power of language, like never before heard.

So here’s to NLP, and the love I have found,
In this language of the mind, where beauty abounds.
For I am in love, with neuro linguistic programming,
And its power to change, our thoughts, and our living.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Uunchai – The Highs and Lows Through NLP Lens

Uunchai – The Highs and Lows Through NLP Lens

The story of 3 friends who set on the journey of ash immersion for their another best friend tastes like 3 idiots with the spice of friendship. The parental angle draws a blurred line with Baghbaan, but Suraj Barjatya has taken care of serving contemporary values packed in old packet. Rest of the saga has mixed concoction of values, friendship, care and a redefined way to look at parenting too. Coming from a childhood, where I chose movies over cricket and sometimes even friends, I cannot resist connecting the dots between every movie I watch with NLP. So here are some observations through the lens of NLP. – When they decide to trek to base camp, Outcome orientation is well portrayed.

– 2 months to practice are perfect example of Sensory Awareness of current situation.

– Behavioural Flexibility is depicted in Amit’s willpower to do whatever it takes to get there.

– Rapport (meet them where they are) is explicitly demonstrated when Amit gets Om and Javed to agree by offering Javed’s wife, Neena to be dropped at daughter’s place.

– Negotiation principle is shown through Amit by Letting them know that what you want is on the same path as what they want – planning Kanpur and Gorakhpur halts on the way for Javed and Om.

– Forgiveness – forgiving Mala for breaking Bhupen’s heart and allowing her to throw the ashes.

– Calibration – Amit observes Javed’s daughter and son-in-law’s non-verbals that are non-welcoming of their parents.

– Amit shows Chunking down through an overwhelming task of walking by breathing after every single step.

– Clarity of outcome is reflecting through difference between Base Camp and the apparent interpretation of climbing to the top of Everest.

– Authenticity – What Amit writes for the youth is not in congruence with the reality of the youth.

– Focus and patience of Shraddha who is guiding the 4 oldies along with the other youngsters.

– Regret of Mala – realising that “everyone makes the best of the resources they have.”

– Respect + Love + SELF – Javed finally takes a stand to go to EBC while at the same time stating his love and respect for his wife.

Till the time we meet next, stay cinematic.

How to Banish Clutter and Leave Stress Behind

How to Banish Clutter and Leave Stress Behind

Deadlines, financial difficulties, and competing responsibilities are some well-known causes of stress in our lives. Research shows that clutter can also be a hidden cause of stress at home and work. Experiencing less stress in your life may be as simple as getting rid of your excess stuff!

A 2011 study at the Princeton University Neuroscience Institute examined the effect of clutter on the brain. According to the study, “Interactions of Top-Down and Bottom-Up Mechanisms in Human Visual Cortex,” clutter does more than take up space in our homes and offices:

Clutter limits the brain’s ability to focus and process information.

Individuals that limit clutter in their home and work environment are less irritable, less distracted, and more productive.

Try these steps to pare down and organize your belongings:

  1. Start small.

If you’ve been living with too much stuff for a long time, you probably feel overwhelmed at the thought of going through your things. Maybe you are uncertain about how to even begin. Get started by setting small cleaning and organizing goals.

  • Avoid setting an unrealistic goal of cleaning your whole house overnight. Set small goals, like organizing a desk or closet. As you experience success on a small scale, you’ll receive the boost in confidence that you need to continue your efforts.

  • Once you have established order to a small space, keep going. Build upon your success. After your drawers and closets, focus on cleaning an entire room. Clean and organize one room at a time until your entire home is filled only with necessary items that you use on a regular basis.

  • Keep your closets and drawers organized by adopting a “one in, one out” rule. Get rid of one old item each time you buy something new.

  1. Be ruthless.

If you haven’t worn or used an item in a year or longer, do you really still need it? Get rid of duplicate items, as well as worn out and broken items that you haven’t fixed.

  • Items received as gifts from loved ones can be particularly difficult to part with, especially if the loved one is now deceased. Take the time to acknowledge your loss, but realize that holding on to your loved one’s possessions won’t bring them back.

  • One option that may make it easier to part with an item and honor your loved one’s memory, is to sell the item and donate the proceeds to their favorite charity.

  • If you feel guilty at the thought of throwing an item away, consider donating it if it’s still in good condition. This boosts your energy and self-esteem, in addition to getting rid of your clutter!

  1. Straighten the focal points of your bedroom, living room, and kitchen at the start of each day.

Set the tone for your day by spending 15 minutes straightening the central areas of your home each morning.

  • Make your bed, wash any dirty dishes, and eliminate clutter from the living room, counters, and kitchen table.

  • Reverse this strategy at work, and clear your desk before you leave at the end of the day.

  • By removing the clutter from these key areas, you’ll feel more calm and relaxed when you return.

Having too much stuff is visually distracting and it adds to your daily stress level. Following these above simple steps will contribute to greater feelings of serenity in your life as you say “goodbye” to clutter.
