NLP for Flexibility Beyond Personality Types

We often box ourselves in with labels—“I’m an introvert,” “I’m not a risk-taker,” “That’s just how I am.” But NLP reminds us that you are more than your personality type. These patterns may describe your preferences, but they don’t define your potential.

Flexibility means tapping into a wider range of behaviours when the situation calls for it. An introvert can be a confident speaker. A detail-oriented person can also learn to think big-picture. NLP techniques like modelling and perceptual positions help you step into someone else’s mindset, even if it’s not your natural style.

Ask yourself: “What would it be like to think, speak, or act like someone who’s completely different from me?” Try it on—just like trying on a new jacket.

True personal growth comes when you stop saying “That’s not me” and start saying “That can be me—when I choose it.” Flexibility isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about expanding who you can be.

So, here’s the announcement of the first program – the launch of my new in-person workshop: “FROM PERSONALITY TO POSSIBILITY”

If you are you ready to shift from “This is who I am” to “This is who I can become?”, then I invite you to take this exploration deeper—with us (Deepti Jandial and me), in person, on 10th April 2025 for a transformational, full-day workshop titled “From Personality to Possibility”—where psychometric insights meet NLP tools to help you rewire your patterns, reimagine your outcomes, and reclaim your flexibility.

Are You Sharpening Your Axe Enough?

John and Jack were two skilled woodcutters, known for their strength. One day, the villagers challenged them: Who could cut the most trees in a day? 🏆

At sunrise, John grabbed his axe and started chopping non-stop. “No breaks, just hard work!” he thought. Sweat poured down his face, but he refused to stop.

Jack, however, had a different approach. He worked hard too—but every hour, he took a short break. John scoffed. “How does he expect to win by resting?” 😤

As the hours passed, John’s swings slowed. His axe felt heavier, and the trees took longer to fall. Meanwhile, Jack was still cutting with ease. By sunset, Jack had felled more trees—without exhausting himself. 🌳✨

Baffled, John asked, “How did you do it?”

Jack smiled and said, “Every time I took a break, I sharpened my axe. A sharper axe cuts faster with less effort. It’s not just about working hard—it’s about working smart.” 🪓💡

Are you sharpening your axe while you rest/pause?

📖 Hook from the Book

“The first step to empathy is to understand the issue. To do this we need to learn how to listen to understand and not to reply. We have all heard the phrase, ‘We have two ears and one mouth. We should use them in that proportion.’ However, something even more interesting is that if we put two ears side by side, they form the shape of a heart. Also, we cannot spell heart without ear. So, if we really want to understand someone’s heart, the only way is through the ears. Listen!” — Michiko Aoyama, What You Are Looking for is in the Library

🎬 Movie Motivation

“It’s not about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” This dialogue from Rocky Balboa reminds us that resilience is key. NLP teaches the value of reframing setbacks as learning opportunities—each challenge is a chance to build inner strength and push forward despite adversity.

Instant Confidence with NLP

Confidence isn’t something you either have or don’t—it’s a state of mind you can access anytime with NLP. One simple technique is anchoring. Think of a time when you felt truly confident—maybe after a big win or a moment of success. Close your eyes and relive it fully: see what you saw, hear what you heard, and feel that power in your body.

Now, as the feeling peaks, create a physical anchor—press your thumb and forefinger together or tap your chest. Repeat this process several times, strengthening the link between the gesture and the confident state.

Next time you need a boost before a big meeting, presentation, or conversation, activate your anchor. Your mind will recall that confident state instantly. Confidence isn’t luck—it’s a skill you can train. And with NLP, you’re always just one trigger away from stepping into your best self.

What Bridges Are You Leaving Behind?

The old man wiped the sweat off his forehead as he pushed through the thick forest. His feet crunched against the damp earth, the air filled with the scent of leaves and soil. Birds called from a distance, their songs echoing through the trees.

After a long walk, he reached a river. It was wide and fast, the water rushing past with force. He looked around for a way across, but there was none. If he wanted to continue, he would have to build a bridge.

Slowly, he gathered strong branches, tied them together with vines, and placed logs to hold everything in place. His hands, though old, worked steadily. When the bridge was ready, he tested it carefully, one step at a time, until he reached the other side.

Relieved, he could have moved on. But he didn’t.

Instead, he turned back and reinforced the bridge, making it stronger and safer. He knew others would come this way, and he wanted to help them.

Just then, a traveler arrived and watched him curiously.

“You’ve already crossed,” the traveler said. “Why are you still working on the bridge?”

The old man smiled. “Because someone else will need it too. I struggled to cross, but now others won’t have to.”

The traveler nodded and stepped onto the bridge, grateful for the stranger’s kindness.

So ask yourself: What bridges are you leaving behind?

📖 Hook from the Book

“Singles are envious of those who are married, and married couples envy those with children, but people with children are envious of singles. It’s an endless merry-go-round. But isn’t that funny? That each person should be chasing the tail of the person in front of them, when no one is coming first or last. In other words, when it comes to happiness nothing is better or worse—there is no definitive state.” — Michiko Aoyama, What You Are Looking for is in the Library

🎬 Movie Motivation

“Get busy living, or get busy dying.” This dialogue from The Shawshank Redemption underscores the power of choice and commitment. In NLP, adopting a proactive mindset means choosing to take meaningful actions rather than remaining passive, which ultimately shapes your reality.

⏳ One Minute NLP

Letting Go of the Past

Holding onto past mistakes, regrets, or painful experiences can weigh you down. NLP offers a simple yet powerful way to release emotional baggage and move forward. One technique is dissociation—instead of reliving a past event, imagine watching it as a distant movie. See it in black and white, shrink it down, and let it fade. The further you push it away in your mind, the less emotional charge it holds.

Another method is reframing—instead of asking “Why did this happen to me?” shift to “What did this teach me?” Every experience, no matter how painful, holds a lesson that can make you stronger.

Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting—it means freeing yourself from the past’s grip. The more you focus on the present and future, the lighter and more empowered you become. Release what no longer serves you and step into the life you truly want.

Prove Wrong or Move On?

Professor Bennett was known for his unconventional methods. His students at Westbridge University were used to his philosophical riddles, but today was different. As they filed into the classroom, they found him standing beside his desk, an old wooden chair placed deliberately on top of it.

Without preamble, he picked up a piece of chalk and wrote on the board in bold letters: “Prove that this chair does not exist.”

Murmurs rippled through the room as the students exchanged puzzled glances. Some frowned in concentration, others smirked, already crafting their arguments. The clock began ticking, and one by one, they hunched over their desks, scribbling furiously.

Jason, a logical thinker, opted for a scientific approach. “Matter is made up of atoms, which are mostly empty space. If the chair is mostly emptiness, does it truly exist in a solid state?”

Across the room, Thomas filled pages with intricate reasoning, pulling in concepts from Kant and Berkeley. His handwriting was rushed but deliberate, as if each word carried immense weight.

Then there was Daniel. He simply glanced at the board, smiled, and wrote two words on his paper before standing up. The entire room watched as he casually handed his sheet to Professor Bennett and walked out.

Days later, Professor Bennett returned the graded papers. Daniel had topped. The whole class wanted to know what did Daniel write on paper, so the professor asked him to spill the beans.

“I wrote-‘what chair?’” Daniel replied.

In life, we often spend too much time battling illusions—worries, doubts, fears—that only exist because we acknowledge them. Sometimes, the simplest way to overcome an obstacle is not to fight it, but to refuse its existence altogether.

So ask yourself: What chairs are you still trying to prove wrong, when you could simply move on?

📖 Hook from the Book

“Person A understands Person B because the time is right for that to happen, not because Person B wants to be understood by Person A.” — Haruki Murakami, Norwegian Wood

🎬 Movie Motivation

“With great power comes great responsibility.” This dialogue from Spiderman highlights the balance between internal capacity and external action. NLP stresses self-awareness and ethical use of personal strengths, ensuring that our actions align with our values and purpose.

⏳ One Minute NLP

Overcoming Negative Self-Talk

The way you speak to yourself shapes your reality. If your inner dialogue is full of doubt and criticism, it can hold you back. NLP teaches that you can change these negative patterns by shifting your language and focus.

Next time you catch yourself thinking, “I’m not good enough,” stop and reframe it. Ask, “What if I am capable?” or “What can I learn from this?” Change the tone of your inner voice—imagine it softer, friendlier, or even playful. Would you let a close friend talk to themselves that way? If not, why accept it for yourself?

With practice, you can replace negative self-talk with empowering thoughts. The more you do this, the more your confidence and self-belief grow. Your words matter—make sure the ones you tell yourself are helping you, not holding you back.

Are You Ready to Change the Tune?

“I really want to wake up early so I can have a great morning routine, but I just can’t seem to sleep on time.” Rahul sighed, his words echoing through the café for the third weekend in a row.

By the fifth meet-up, his frustration hadn’t changed—only now, it seemed his entire conversation revolved around this one problem.

Raveena, always eager to help, hatched a plan. Each time Rahul complained, she responded with the same joke, delivered in the same tone, with the same exaggerated expressions.

By the fourth time, Rahul groaned. “Raveena, come on. How many times do you expect us to laugh at the same joke?” His exasperation was unmistakable.

“Exactly, Rahul,” she said, leaning forward with a knowing smile. “If you can’t laugh at the same joke every time, how can you keep whining about the same problem without doing anything to change it?”

Often, we become prisoners of our own complaints, repeating them like a broken record, trapped in a loop of helplessness. The real question is — are you just playing the same song, or are you ready to change the tune?

📖 Hook from the Book

“Your purpose in life does not have to be related to what you do for work.” — Sahil Bloom, 5 Types of Wealth

🎬 Movie Motivation

“The world is yours.” This dialogue from the movie Scarface aligns with NLP’s focus on self-empowerment and reframing. By shifting your internal narrative to one of possibility, you open yourself up to a world of opportunities and success.

Self-Love

Self love is all about recognising your own value and treating yourself with kindness and understanding. It starts with the way you speak to yourself—replacing harsh self-criticism with gentle, encouraging words. Imagine looking in the mirror and acknowledging not just your strengths, but also the qualities that make you uniquely you. In NLP, you can reprogram your inner dialogue through techniques like visualisation and anchoring. Picture a moment when you felt truly proud and content, and then anchor that feeling with a simple gesture or phrase. Over time, this practice helps you develop a positive mindset that carries you through challenges. Remember, self love isn’t selfish; it’s essential for a balanced, fulfilling life. When you nurture yourself, you’re better equipped to handle life’s ups and downs and share your best self with others.

What is Inside You?

In a grand estate surrounded by lush gardens, a wealthy merchant named Rajan summoned his loyal servant, Anil. Rajan had all the wealth one could ask for, yet he rarely spared a thought for those who served him.

That evening, he handed Anil a woven basket filled with half-rotten fruits—bruised apples, overripe bananas, and a faint sour smell hanging in the air.

“Here, take this,” Rajan said, waving his hand dismissively. “Do whatever you want with it.”

Anil, a humble man with kind eyes, took the basket with a grateful nod. “Thank you, master,” he said sincerely, despite knowing the fruits were barely edible. Without a hint of disappointment, he carried them away.

That night, Anil carefully sorted through the basket. He picked out the few salvageable pieces and shared them with the other servants, making sure nothing went to waste. Then, he scrubbed the basket clean, removing every stain of decay.

The next morning, he walked into the garden, where jasmine, marigolds, and roses bloomed in vibrant colors. He handpicked the freshest, most fragrant flowers and arranged them beautifully in the same basket. The sweet scent of fresh petals replaced the sourness of the previous day.

With a warm smile, Anil returned the basket to Rajan. “Master, this is for you,” he said, holding it out with both hands.

Rajan frowned, puzzled. “Why have you returned the basket filled with fresh flowers when I gave you half-rotten fruit?”

Anil bowed his head slightly, his voice calm yet profound. “Sir, I can only give you what’s inside me,” he said gently. “We can only serve others with what we are filled with.”

So, the question is — what’s inside you?

⏳ One Minute NLP

Behavioural Flexibility

Behavioural flexibility is all about adapting your actions and responses to fit any situation you encounter. In NLP, it’s seen as a key to success because it means you’re not stuck in one rigid way of thinking or reacting. When things don’t go as planned, a flexible mindset lets you change tactics, try a different approach, and ultimately find a solution that works. Think of it as being the driver of your own life — if one route is blocked, you can quickly choose an alternative path. This quality not only helps you overcome obstacles but also builds stronger connections with others, as you become more open to understanding different perspectives. By embracing behavioural flexibility, you’re continually learning and growing, turning challenges into opportunities and making your life more resilient and effective.

Words Can Give You Life

In the quiet of a hospital room, two men, Ramakant and Harish, became friends without ever saying much. Ramakant was too weak to move, battling terminal cancer. He longed for his pain to end. Harish, though able to walk around, never spoke about his own illness.

Every day, Harish described the world outside their window in the most beautiful way.
“The sky is glowing with a rainbow,” he’d say. “Children are playing and laughing, an elderly couple is meditating in the sun, and vendors are selling fresh vegetables.”

His words became Ramakant’s only escape. He couldn’t see any of it, but he felt it through Harish’s stories. For a few moments, he forgot his pain.

Then, one morning, Ramakant woke up to an unbearable silence—Harish’s bed was empty. The nurse’s words shattered him: “He passed away last night.”

Grief hit him hard. The stories, the laughter, the colours—everything was gone. The room felt darker, lonelier.

With great effort, Ramakant gathered his strength and dragged himself toward the window. But when he looked outside, a shock ran through him.

There was no garden. No sky. No bustling street. Just a black wall.

His heart pounded with anger. “Why did you block my view?” he shouted at the nurse.

She looked at him gently and said, “This wall has been here for years.”

Tears filled his eyes. Harish had given him something precious—not just stories, but hope. Even when there was nothing, Harish had created a world full of life for him.

His words had been a gift, turning emptiness into beauty.

Your words can either be tonic for your life, or they can make your life toxic.

My question to you is – Which type of words are you using – Tonic or Toxic?

📖 Hook from the Book

“We accept the love we think we deserve.” — Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

🎬 Movie Motivation

“Don’t let anyone ever make you feel like you don’t deserve what you want.” — The Pursuit of Happyness

In NLP, we often talk about self-worth and state management. The way you perceive yourself shapes your actions and results. If you believe you are deserving, your unconscious mind will find ways to make it happen.
