One Minute NLP – The Secret Ingredient in Relationships

In case you are wondering what is the secret ingredient for successful relationships, here is a metaphor that I shared in last Wednesday’s NLP Practice session on “The Art of Influence”. When you look at people around you who are in a harmonious loving relationship that may appear to be absolutely effortless on their part, remind yourself of the duck that swims so apparently effortlessly on water. Beneath the surface, you would notice the duck constantly pedalling non-stop to ensure that a smooth sailing. Nurturing your relationship is akin to that pedalling that is constant and continuous beneath the surface, and yet resulting in a seamless effortless and beautiful relationship.

Meta-Magic – You are The Light You are Looking For

“The world is so full of darkness,” cribbed the Cave to the Sun. The Sun could not fathom what darkness meant and tried very hard to explain to the Cave how the world actually beams bright with light. The Cave was unable to relate to the concept of a bright life. Even after an extended banter, neither could comprehend each other’s perception.

“Why don’t we swap places to understand better?” The Sun suggested with raised eyebrows. The Cave nodded with a yes.

First, the Cave went up to the Sun to see the world. “Oh! You were right, my friend Sun. It is all illuminated and beautiful. Nevertheless, now you’ll get to see my truth too. It’s your time to come down and see where I have been living.”

When the Sun reached down, he exclaimed in shock, “What! Where is the darkness? It is all so luminous, my dear Cave friend.” As the Sun carried his light with him, he could not witness the darkness that was there before he arrived.

Those who are illuminated like the Sun find solace regardless of external circumstances. Even in the face of adversity, they manage to discover blessings, whereas those who harbour darkness (negativity, fear, doubt) unwittingly become like a cave – hollow and filled with internal turmoil.

My question to you is: Are you ready to discover the enlightenment within you in 2024?

Meta-Magic – Can You Sleep When The Wind Blows?

“How can I trust a thin young lad like you to take care for my whole farm in this stormy land?” Asked John, the owner of a farmland at Atlantic seacoast.

The new year brought new hope for John when Lenny accepted to work on the farm, after many other  men had declined the offer fearing the dreadful storms in that locality.

“Well, I can sleep when the wind blows,” answered Lenny while shrugging his shoulders and gazing confidently into John’s eyes. Though John could not decipher what Lenny said, he chose to hire him out of his own desperation for help.

Lenny worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and John felt satisfied with his choice too.

After a few weeks, a tornado hit the seashore and woke John with a jolt. He rushed to the farm and saw Lenny snoring loudly. He tried to wake him up, and all Lenny did was toss to the other side while mumbling, “No Sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows.”

Enraged and exasperated, John moved towards the farm to bring things under control by himself. He cursed himself for making his worst hiring mistake. When he sprinted towards the farm, he could not believe what he saw. To his surprise, he discovered all the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn, the chickens were in the coops, and the doors were barred. The shutters were tightly secured. Everything was tied down. Nothing could blow away.

Lenny’s words reverberated and made complete sense now. John returned to his bed to sleep peacefully while the wind blew, all because Lenny had well prepared in advance.

When you are prepared spiritually, mentally, and physically, you have nothing to fear. My question to you is: Can you sleep when the wind blows?

5 Ultimate NLP Techniques to Make the Best of 2024

5 Ultimate NLP Techniques to Make the Best of 2024

As we step into 2024, it’s time to supercharge our journey towards self-improvement with the help of some incredibly powerful tools from NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming).

James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, says, “Focus on systems, not on goals”. The question that comes to my mind is – Which are the ultimate tools that can help you to focus on your systems as well as your goals?

“Ideas are cheap, but execution is expensive,” says Sahil Bloom, the renowned influencer. To afford such expensive execution, I would like to share some pocket-friendly as well as brain-friendly, simple-to-use and potent NLP tools that will help you build not just solid systems, but also the resilience to keep going.

1. Anchoring: Setting the Stage for Success

Imagine having a secret button that instantly transports you to a state of confidence, calmness, or motivation. Well, with anchoring, you can create just that! Anchoring connects you to your most profound memories of the desired emotional state, and associating a specific stimulus with that particular emotional state.

For example, If you want to feel super confident while appearing for an interview, anchoring helps you to re-wire that circuit of experience instantly.

2. Well-Formed Outcomes: Clarifying Your Path to Success

Goal-setting is done by the conscious mind, whereas Goal-getting is done by the subconscious mind. Well-Formed Outcomes is a tool that helps you define your objectives in a way that maximizes your chances of success.

Here is a simple example from the entire process of Well formed outcomes. Instead of saying, “I want to lose 10 kgs of weight,” make it a well-formed outcome by specifying how much weight you want to actually be at, by when, and what steps you’ll take. For instance, “I will weigh 65 kgs by 30th June 2024.” Also, ask yourself what needs to happen for you to know that you have achieved your weight goal by the specified date. You might be surprised by the answers you get from your subconscious mind in this regard.

3. Swish: Rewire Your Mind for Positive Change

Bid farewell to those pesky negative thoughts with the Swish pattern. This technique allows you to replace an undesirable thought or behaviour with a positive one through a rapid mental process that includes a simple and quick visualisation.

Swish can help you visualize your ideal life with utmost clarity and make you time-travel into the future to ignite the achievement of your desired goals, helping you unlock the untapped life and visions you’ve been yearning for.

4. Reframing: Shift Perspectives, Change Realities

Life’s challenges become opportunities with the magic of reframing. This NLP tool involves changing the way you perceive a situation, turning negatives into positives, without actually changing the facts of the situation.

Instead of viewing a setback as a failure, reframe it as a valuable learning experience. Ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?” By shifting your perspective, you transform obstacles into stepping stones for personal growth.

5. Six Step Reframe: Break Free from Unwanted Habits

Bid farewell to unwanted habits with the Six Step Reframe technique. This tool allows you to understand and change the underlying patterns that drive undesirable behaviours.

Six-step reframe helps you to figure out the positive intentions behind these undesirable behaviours and, more importantly, also helps you to chalk out a parallel plan to fulfil your positive intention so that it doesn’t become a hindrance for you. This is quite a practical approach as it accepts the existence of distractions but also shows you how to create traction.

To sum up, embarking on a journey of self-discovery and personal development is an exciting endeavour, and these five ultimate NLP tools are your trusted companions on this path.

Embrace the magic of this fresh beginning with an outcome orientation that propels you towards success. Enhance your sensory awareness, dance with your behavioural flexibility, and forge connections through the art of rapport.

May this year be a canvas for you to paint the masterpiece of your aspirations using powerful strategies and NLP principles.

Wishing you a year of transformative experiences and achievements in 2024!

One Minute NLP – Reflect, Reset, Rise
When you drive a car, how important is the reverse gear? Even as you begin to manoeuvre your car out of the parking space, so that you can drive it for a longer and new distance, you may often need to apply the reverse gear before you move the car into the appropriate forward gear.

While we are saying goodbye to 2023 and setting out on a new ride for 2024, it might be a good idea to shift gears, go back into reverse gear to reflect about 2023, reset and recalibrate ourselves into the present moment and then get ready to rise further into 2024 and beyond.

My New Year Gift to you today is the recording of the session which I conducted for my NLP Family on 27th Dec 2023 where we brainstormed on reflections from 2023 and embraced ourselves for 2024 through visualisations. Here is your link to the 90 minutes power packed session ‘RRR – Reflect, Reset & Rise – from 2023 to 2024’.

Meta-Magic – Who is judging you?

A painter having completed his course decided to create his debut painting. As he was wondering how to get people’s feedback, his eyes lit up with an idea. He went to the nearby street corner and left the painting to showcase it, along with a note that read – “I am a newbie painter, and this is my first painting. Please give feedback by putting a cross wherever you find a mistake.”

When he returned in the evening, his eyes widened in shock and soon welled up with tears. He went to his master with his head hung low. When asked, he opened his heart with a lump in his throat, “I am the worst painter ever. Look at the number of crosses on my painting.”

The master took a deep breath and smiled. “Will you do what I ask you to?” He asked while gazing deep into the disciple’s eyes. When the disciple nodded yes, the master asked him to leave a replica of the same painting with another note at the same place. The only change was in the wordings of the note he had to leave there. This time, the note read – “I seek your feedback on my debut painting. I have kept a paintbrush and colours here. Please pick up and correct the wrong strokes to help me to improve.”

The next day, the disciple left the painting with a note paintbrush and some colours. When he returned in the evening, he could not believe his eyes. Not even a single correction was made to the painting. Brimmed with joy, when the Disciple returned to the master and told him what had transpired, the master said, “It is easy to point out a mistake but tough to correct it.”

My question to you is: In which areas of your life, do you feel driven by the need to get judged by other people’s definition of you?

One Minute NLP – Towards Orientation

Last week we discovered about how adding “what you want” becomes a game changer in manifesting your desired life. In NLP, these are called “Towards” orientations. Let’s dive deeper and understand the psychology about how using these “towards” statements play on your subconscious for better results every time.

This reminds me of the story of a man who after walking endlessly in the desert, spotted a sole tree and sat under it. “Ah! Wish I could get some water” – he murmured to himself. And boom! the water appeared. With his eyes wide open, the man quickly gulped the water. After that, he thought about food and the food appeared, he thought about juice and juice appeared. He thought about sleep and he had the most relaxing sleep of his life.

On waking up, fear got better of him and he began doubting that the tree has been possessed by demons. “Oh I don’t want to be killed by this monstrous tree, which is fulfilling all my wishes.”

And instantly, he was killed.

The tree was the Kalpavriksha tree – the tree of manifestation – it listens to whatever you think and gives to you. Had the man said, “I want to live under this monstrous tree come what may”, he would not have invited his own death.

Your mind is just like this Kalpavriksha tree. Your thoughts become your echo and, thereby, your reality. So if you have been focusing on what you want to avoid, instead start focusing on what you want.

Meta-Magic – The Shark in Your Tank

Japanese fishermen used to go fishing far distances into the deep seas, but were always concerned about the freshness of the fish as a culinary delight. Even though the freezers installed on the boats helped to keep the fish frozen and enabled the boats to spend more days at sea, the taste of the frozen fish was not as good as that of the fresh fish.

To counter this, the fishing companies installed fish tanks in the boats, so that the fish could stay alive even while the fishermen continued fishing for more. The drawback here was that because the fish would not move much in the tanks, their freshness would again get lost.

Finally, a creative mind came up with a solution and the fishing companies introduced a small shark into the tank. While the shark ate a few fish, most of them remained alive and more importantly, active and fresh.

My Question to you is – Do you need a shark in your tank in order to keep you active and fresh?

Hook From The Book

“Love doesn’t always happen to strengthen our beliefs. Sometimes it happens to destroy all our previous beliefs and faith and gives us a chance to re-look at our own conclusions.” Marry Me Stranger by Novoneel Chakraborty

Movie Motivation

“Tarik pe tarik, tarik pe tarik…” (translated to: “From one date to another to another…”) Although this dialogue from the movie Damini is in the context of the judgement being deferred from one court hearing date to the next, I invite you to think of this in the context of what are those actions that you are shifting, deferring or procrastinating from one date to the next, waiting for that one fine day – planning every time to start from the next week or the next month or the next year, and the date just keeps shifting.

As the Chinese saying goes – “The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is NOW.”
