ā³ One Minute NLP

NLP for Building Instant Rapport

Ever met someone and instantly felt at ease with them? That’s rapport—and in NLP, it’s not luck, it’s a skill you can learn. Rapport happens when people feel seen, heard, and understood. One simple way to build it?Ā Mirroring.

Gently match the other person’s body language, tone, and pace of speech. If they’re calm and soft-spoken, meet them there. If they’re upbeat and animated, raise your energy to match. This creates a subconscious sense of ā€œwe’re alike,ā€ which builds trust.

You can also match theirĀ language style. Do they use visual words like ā€œI see what you meanā€ or feeling words like ā€œThat feels rightā€? Speak their language and you’ll connect more deeply.

Rapport opens doors in conversations, relationships, and negotiations. With NLP, you learn to build it consciously—making others feel safe, respected, and willing to engage. Because when connection comes first, everything else flows.

How Often Do You Check Your Own Performance?Ā

A little boy named Tom walked into a grocery store and politely asked to use the phone. The store owner nodded, curious.

Tom dialed a number and said, ā€œHello, ma’am. Do you need someone to mow your lawn?ā€

A pause.

ā€œOh, you already have someone? I can do it for half the price.ā€

Another pause.

ā€œI’ll even sweep your sidewalk and curb for free. Don’t you want the best lawn in the neighborhood?ā€

A final, polite refusal. Tom smiled and hung up.

The store owner, impressed by the boy’s determination, approached him. ā€œYou’ve got a great attitude, son. I’d like to hire you.ā€

Tom grinned. ā€œThanks, but I already have a job.ā€

Surprised, the owner asked, ā€œBut… you were just asking for one?ā€

Tom winked. ā€œNo, sir. I was checking how well I’m doing at the one I’ve got.Ā That call was to the lady I already work for. I just wanted to see if she still thinks I’m the best choice.ā€

My Question to you isĀ – ā€œWhen was the last timeĀ youĀ checked how well you’re doing—without waiting for someone else to tell you?ā€

šŸ“– Hook from the Book

ā€œWe need to be allowed to convince ourselves that we’re more than the mistakes we made yesterday. That we are all of our next choices, too, all of our tomorrows.ā€Ā ā€”Ā Fredrik Backman, Anxious People

šŸŽ¬ Movie Motivation

ā€œOur lives are defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss.ā€Ā This dialogue from the movieĀ The Curious Case of Benjamin ButtonĀ ties into the NLP concept of seizing opportunities and makingĀ choicesĀ that shape our destiny. It reflects the idea that recognizing and acting on opportunities, even missed ones, can lead to growth and transformation.
