How Artificial is this Intelligence?

How Artificial is this Intelligence?

If there’s one buzzword that stirs up equal parts excitement and apprehension, it’s AI – Artificial Intelligence. For some, it’s a fascinating leap into the future. For others, it feels like a threat looming over the sanctity of human creativity. But is that really true?

As an NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) Coach, I’ve always been fascinated by the power of words. The language we use frames our beliefs and shapes our reality. And in the case of AI, I believe the resistance doesn’t come from the technology itself but from one specific word: artificial.

The Problem with “Artificial”

Think about it. The term “artificial” often carries negative connotations. Artificial jewellery? Fake. Artificial branded goods? Counterfeit. Artificial sweeteners? Not as good as the real thing. Humans naturally gravitate towards authenticity, and the word “artificial” feels inherently detached, even untrustworthy.

When we call this remarkable technological advancement “Artificial Intelligence,” it’s no surprise that some people perceive it as a substitute, even a competitor, to genuine human intelligence. For many people, this framing can feel like a challenge to their originality and imagination.

AI: A Partner, Not a Rival

But here’s the thing: AI doesn’t diminish creativity; it amplifies it. Your creativity is the foundation that extracts and guides the potential of AI. Whether you’re generating ideas, solving problems, or exploring new possibilities, AI acts as a powerful ally, not an adversary. It’s a tool that mirrors your intentions and augments your capabilities.

So, what if we shifted the narrative? What if we reframed the “A” in AI?

From Artificial to Augmented, Amplified, and More

Words matter, and the way we talk about AI can transform how we think about it. Let’s ditch “Artificial” and explore alternatives:

  • Augmented Intelligence: Highlights how AI extends and enhances human intelligence.

  • Added Intelligence: Emphasises that AI is an additional layer of support.

  • Amplified Intelligence: Focuses on AI’s ability to scale creativity and innovation.

  • Adaptive Intelligence: Suggests AI’s flexibility to evolve and align with our needs.

  • Aligned Intelligence: Reinforces the idea of AI working in harmony with human goals.

Reframing AI in this way not only shifts perspectives but also dissolves the mental barriers holding people back from embracing its potential. When we stop seeing AI as artificial and start viewing it as an extension of our own intelligence, we unlock new ways of collaboration.

Breaking the Creativity Myth

One of the biggest myths about AI is that it stifles creativity. But in reality, it’s your creativity that determines how effectively you use AI. Think of it as a paintbrush – the brush itself doesn’t create art; the artist does. AI can suggest ideas, streamline workflows, and even open doors to unexplored avenues, but it’s your imagination that drives the process.

Let’s Redefine AI Together

It’s time to change the conversation around AI. By reframing its meaning, we can transform hesitation into curiosity and scepticism into opportunity. And who knows? Perhaps a small shift in perspective is all it takes for someone to see AI not as a competitor but as a creative companion.

What do you think? Should we start a movement to redefine AI? If so, let’s coin a hashtag and make it official. How about #RedefiningAI or #AIAmplified?

Let’s move beyond the artificial and embrace the possibilities of augmented, amplified, and aligned intelligence. The future is ours to co-create – with a little help from AI.

#RedefiningAI #AIAmplified #AmplifiedIntelligence

One Minute NLP – Values: Your Inner Compass

Values are like the GPS of your life – they guide your decisions, shape your behaviours, and define what truly matters to you. In NLP, we see values as the emotional drivers behind everything you do. Whether it’s freedom, connection, growth, or success, your values influence your priorities and how you spend your time.

When your actions align with your values, you feel fulfilled. But when there’s a mismatch, frustration and conflict arise. For example, if you deeply value family but spend most of your time at work, you might feel unbalanced.

The key is clarity. Ask yourself, “What’s most important to me?” Write down your top values and rank them. Then reflect: Are your current choices honouring these values?

When you align your life with your values, decisions become easier, and life feels more purposeful. Remember, your values aren’t set in stone—they evolve as you grow. Stay curious about them, and let them guide you towards a life that feels truly meaningful.

Meta Magic – Who Do You Think You Are?

Mr. Kuber, a man wrapped in wealth and power, was accustomed to others bending to his influence. However, the whispers of Swami Dayanand’s quiet charisma and devoted followers ignited a flicker of envy within him. Driven by curiosity and pride, Kuber decided to meet the enigmatic sage.

Beneath the shade of a sprawling tree, Swami sat cross-legged on a simple mattress, radiating calm as a crowd of seekers surrounded him. The air hummed with tranquility – a stark contrast to Kuber’s restless ego. He waited, or at least tried to, until impatience got the better of him. Striding forward, he interrupted sharply, “Do you know who I am?”

Unperturbed, Swami folded his hands with grace. “Sir, whoever you may be, I must first attend to the one before me. Please wait.”

Kuber’s temper flared, his anger igniting like dry leaves in a blaze. “Do you even realize what I think of you?” he demanded.

Swami’s voice remained as steady as a flowing stream. “What you think of me is yours to hold. It does not alter my purpose to serve equally.”

The sage’s words doused Kuber’s fiery outburst, leaving him simmering. “You fraud,” Kuber bellowed. “You’re fooling these people with your honey-coated lies!”

Swami responded with a gentle smile, his eyes deep wells of compassion. “That is your perspective, sir, and I respect it. You are whole and complete, just as you are.”

Misinterpreting the sage’s humility as flattery, Kuber returned home, his pride falsely inflated. Over dinner, he narrated the encounter to his father, a wise ex-politician.

“Son,” his father said, shaking his head, “Swami did not praise you. He simply reflected his essence while you revealed yours. We see the world not as it is, but as we are. If you wish to change the world, begin by changing within.”

Kuber fell silent, the truth landing like a pebble sending ripples through the still waters of his soul.

One Minute NLP – Beliefs: The Blueprint of Your Reality

Your beliefs shape your world. Think of them as the lenses through which you view life. Whether you believe “I can’t” or “I’m unstoppable,” you’re likely to prove yourself right. That’s the power of beliefs—they act as self-fulfilling prophecies.

In NLP, we understand that beliefs are not fixed; they’re patterns of thought you’ve reinforced over time. The exciting part? You can change them. If a belief is holding you back, challenge it. Ask yourself, “Is this belief true?” and, more importantly, “Is it serving me?” Replace limiting beliefs with empowering ones.

For instance, shift “I’ll never succeed” to “Every step I take brings me closer to success.” As you repeat and act on this new belief, it becomes your reality. Beliefs aren’t facts—they’re choices. Choose the ones that empower you.

Meta Magic – The Real Picture of Peace

John cherished his morning routine — climbing a mountain in Manali, his beloved city. It wasn’t just cardio; it was a communion with nature.

One day, his 8-year-old son Jacob begged to join him. John hesitated, unsure about Jacob’s safety, but the boy’s persistence wore him down.

As they ascended, the fresh pine-scented air filled their lungs, and the rustle of leaves accompanied their steps. A boulder blocked their path. John, an experienced climber, sidestepped it with ease, but Jacob, lost in awe of the mountain’s beauty, stumbled and fell. His sharp cry echoed across the peaks, startling him.

“Who are you?” Jacob yelled into the vastness, anger lacing his voice. The question boomed back, mocking him.

“Shut up, you idiot! I hate you!” he shouted, his frustration mounting. The mountains only hurled his words back louder.

John, watching from a distance, approached his son, who now stood with slumped shoulders. “Dad, who is this invisible bully? He’s taunting me! I want to make him stop,” Jacob complained.

John knelt beside him, a knowing smile on his face. “Watch this,” he said softly. Turning to the peaks, he called out, “I love you!”

The mountains responded in kind, their echo tender and warm. Jacob’s confusion deepened. “Why did it answer you with kindness?”

John placed a hand on his son’s shoulder. “That’s the mountain’s echo. It reflects what you give it. Life works the same way. Speak with love, and love will find you. Speak with anger, and it’ll follow you back.”

My question- What echo are you creating in your life?

Movie Motivation

“It’s only after we’ve lost everything that we’re free to do anything.” This line from the movie Fight Club reflects letting go of attachments to achieve freedom and clarity. NLP emphasizes the importance of mental flexibility and overcoming fears to unlock potential.

The Fish Does Not Know What is Water

The Fish Does Not Know What is Water

A young man once approached a wise mentor, troubled by the monotony of his life. “I feel stuck,” he said. “Nothing seems to change.”

The mentor smiled and pointed to the river flowing nearby. “You see the water in this river?” he asked.

“Yes,” the young man replied.

“Do the fish see it?”

The man hesitated. “Probably not—they are too immersed in it.”

“Exactly,” said the mentor. “You are like the fish, surrounded by the currents of your thoughts, routines, and assumptions. To change your life, first recognize the water you swim in.”

Imagine a fish swimming in the vast ocean. Water surrounds it, nurtures it, sustains its life—but does the fish ever stop to think about the water? Most likely not. Why? Because water is its default reality, something so omnipresent that it becomes invisible.

This simple yet profound idea gives us a metaphorical lens to explore our own lives. Just like the fish, we are often unaware of the “water” that surrounds us—the beliefs, assumptions, and systems that shape our reality.

What Is the “Water” in Our Lives?

Our “water” could be many things:

  • Cultural Norms: The customs and traditions we inherit, often followed without questioning their relevance or truth.
  • Beliefs and Values: Ideas ingrained in us by family, society, or experiences that influence our decisions without us realizing it.
  • Routines and Habits: Daily patterns that feel natural, but may not necessarily serve our growth.

When we fail to see the “water,” we miss the opportunity to question, to evolve, and to take charge of our lives.

Why Doesn’t the Fish Know the Water?

Interestingly, the fish does not know water because the fish does not know what it means to be without water. It has never experienced the absence of what sustains it. This highlights a broader truth about life: often, we only recognize something’s presence when we have felt its absence.

We understand light because we have known darkness. We value freedom because we have seen or experienced its constraints. To truly grasp the essence of our “water,” we must contrast it with its opposite. This duality—knowing one through the absence of the other—is a powerful teacher. It compels us to reflect on the unseen forces that shape our existence.

Why Don’t We Notice the Water?

  • Familiarity: What is always present tends to fade into the background.
  • Comfort Zones: Acknowledging the water means stepping into the unknown, which can feel unsettling.
  • Bias Blind Spot: We all have blind spots that prevent us from seeing the bigger picture or recognizing alternative perspectives.

How Can We Start Seeing the Water?

  1. Pause and Reflect: Create moments of stillness to examine your beliefs, behaviors, and thought patterns. Journaling or meditative practices can help.
  2. Seek Diverse Perspectives: Engage with people who think differently, read books that challenge your views, or travel to new environments.
  3. Ask Powerful Questions:

    • Why do I believe this?
    • Is this serving my highest potential?
    • What if the opposite were true?
  4. Be Open to Change: Awareness often leads to discomfort, but discomfort is the precursor to growth.

The Gift of Awareness

When the fish begins to recognize the water, it unlocks a new level of existence. It can swim with intention, choose new directions, or even leap to explore the world beyond its pond.

Similarly, when we notice the “water” in our lives, we gain the power to reshape our realities. We stop living on autopilot and start creating lives aligned with our deepest values and aspirations.

So, take a moment to ask yourself:

  • What is my water?
  • Am I swimming through life unaware of the forces shaping my journey?
  • And most importantly, am I ready to dive deeper into self-awareness?

Because the first step to transformation is seeing the invisible. And when you do, a whole new world opens up—one ripple at a time.

What does this metaphor of the fish and water mean to you? Share your reflections in the comments below.

The Real Picture of Peace

The Real Picture of Peace

The past week has been a truly satisfying start to the New Year 2025. Some of the highlights of the first 10 days of 2025 have been:

  • An amazing completion of a 14 day online cohort program called “High Impact Performer” where 40 participants were able to precisely understand and implement the secret ingredients of becoming High Impact Performers. The way the performers expressed their aha moments and the way they implemented the learnings were actually the real aha moments for me.
  • The Design Your Year (DYY) which was launched as an online program in Dec 2024 took off with its first offline version for 2025 with a dynamic group of business heads in Kolkata famously known as the Corporate Connections, who began their 2025 on the right note by designing their Best Year Ever.
  • The Thoughtful Calendar, a brainchild nurtured since long, saw the light of the day with an amazing welcome from you all. The first week of January was actively occupied in the logistical aspects of ensuring smooth delivery of all the orders received. The process included certain hiccups and learnings about having the right kind of reliable delivery partners. And with orders still flowing in, the system is now set on auto-pilot mode.
  • Completion of my second Masters. While the earlier one was 15 years ago as Masters in Financial Management, this time it has been in a seemingly opposite field, viz. Masters in Psychology. Integrating Psychology, NLP and Coaching is going to be an exciting journey of learning and transformation ahead.
  • Testing new technology platforms and integrations, where few of you would have actually received last Saturday’s newsletter just yesterday (Friday). The learning curve has been interesting, and I personally apologise for the delay. Good part of it is you received 2 newsletters this week. Yayyy!!!
  • Thoughtful Thoughts has been another new launch in 2025 with short videos (reels) about some truly impactful quotes from my book Thoughtfully Yours. The nudge for these series has come from all the readers of Thoughtfully Yours who would reach out to me, asking to share my perspective on the thought-provoking quotes in the book. Thank you for the nudge.

Well, I guess my excitement of sharing with you has made the updates itself lengthier than the usual length of this newsletter. But then that is the power of the community and the sharing (check out today’s One Minute NLP below). So now lets dive into this week’s NLP Around You.

One Minute NLP – Excitement of Sharing

Excitement is contagious, isn’t it? Think of the rush you feel when you share a victory — a promotion, a personal milestone, or a breakthrough — and your community celebrates with you. That same excitement can also come from sharing your vulnerabilities, like opening up about a struggle you’ve overcome.

In NLP, we recognise the power of connection. Sharing your highs and lows with those who matter creates deeper bonds. It turns mere acquaintances into allies and builds a sense of belonging. The act of sharing amplifies joy and transforms challenges into moments of growth, not just for you but for everyone listening.

So, the next time you achieve something or navigate a tough time, share it. Let excitement be your bridge to authentic, meaningful relationships. Together, you rise higher.

Meta Magic – The Real Picture of Peace

Once the world’s largest art museum announced a painting competition to depict peace, the news spread like wildfire. Artists from every corner of the globe eagerly picked up their brushes. It was as if the entire world had been splashed with vibrant colors, with creativity bursting forth like a garden in full bloom.

When the winner was revealed, the world gasped in disbelief. Among countless paintings showcasing serene landscapes, a radiant sun glowing warmly, blossoms blooming in soft hues, lush green fields basking in light the winning piece was nothing like the others. It showed a furious tornado tearing through the land, leaving destruction in its wake.

Shocked and confused, the painters crowded around the jury, demanding an explanation. “Surely there’s been a mistake!” one exclaimed with a nervous laugh. “This painting has no trace of peace. It’s pure chaos.”

The head judge smiled gently. “No mistake has been made. This choice was deliberate and thoughtful. Perhaps you overlooked the heart of the painting.”

The artists fell silent as the judge pointed to the canvas. “Look closely. Beyond the swirling storm, there’s a small hut. Inside, an old man gazes out of his window. His face is calm, untouched by the raging winds outside. True peace isn’t the absence of chaos. It’s the stillness within, even as the storm rages around you.”

My question- What does your picture of peace look like?
